England along with Wales Pitted in the Same Group for 2027 Rugby World Cup Down Under

Rugby World Cup 2027 draw ceremony
The pool stage draw was overseen by sporting icons such as former All Black Dan Carter.

England together with their Welsh counterparts find themselves placed in the same pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a highly-anticipated pool stage clash in Australia. Completing the group in Group F by Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This draw recalls their memorable clash in the pool stages of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at Twickenham played a part in the hosts' surprise group stage elimination.

Key Pool Draws

Ireland alongside the Scots also share a pool once again, replicating the situation from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, Ireland claimed a convincing victory, with their opponents unable to advance to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Portugal, both made a strong impression as surprise packages in France, complete that same group.

Notably, the victors of these two groups cannot meet holders and world number one the Springboks before the showpiece match, presuming the Springboks top their own group.

Tournament Ramifications

Should the groups play out in line with the current global standings, other top favourites like the All Blacks and France would also be kept apart from the likes of the English and Ireland until the final.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the remaining top-ranked nation on that half of the elimination bracket as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Face Blockbuster Fixture

Hosts Australia find themselves alongside their trans-Tasman rivals and triple champions the All Blacks in Group A.

Australia will kick off the tournament in the city of Perth on 1 October 2027 in a marquee fixture aimed at launch the competition.

Elsewhere, reigning champions South Africa have drawn the Azzurri, Georgia and the Oaks. France are grouped with the Brave Blossoms, future hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face Fiji, Los Leones and the Canadian team as the World Cup grows to 24 teams from the twenty who took part in France.

The 2027 tournament will introduce a last-16 round for the very first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

Although the winner of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the rugby's biggest beasts initially, they will meet the runner-up from Pool B – most likely the Italians – in the first knockout round.

Four of the remaining six pool winners will play a third-placed side from the pool stages.
